New Balance and Red Wing Shoes were founded just one year apart, so it’s about time the two icons of USA footwear came together to produce a collaboration for the ages. Choosing the timeless 997 as the base, the brands bless the 99x icon with an unmistakable Americana aesthetic.
It’s easy to spot the Red Wing leather, which has been used in place of New Balance’s usual premium provisions, resulting in a tonal palette of browns, creams, and a touch of red. Soft suede is the main material, while a slightly heavier cut is used for the mid-panel and ‘N’ logo. Leather adds some ruggedness to the eyestay, heel support, and ‘MADE IN USA’-branded tongue, as red hits the heel counter, branding on the heel tab, and Red Wing–branded insoles to deliver a warm contrast.
